Peter Jefferies, who lived in Dunedin from the mid-1980s—mid-1990s, and is associated with the “Dunedin Sound” is a stand-out musician of his generation. Jefferies’ indie sound absorbed influences from second-wave punk but he was able to transmute punk into sonically diverse genres as noise-core and mood songs that are lyrically haunting in their dissonant beauty. All works in this exhibition relate to his original punk/post-punk band from New Plymouth ‘Nocturnal Projections’ and are from the private archive of the artist.
